It was a long week of dirt racing between the 2024 Chili Bowl Nationals and the Wild West Shootout at Vado. A few 410 sprint car teams publicly announced their 2024 plans. A surprise combination is heading to Florida to run with High Limit. Carson Macedo is on an absolute heater in Australia right now. Let’s dive into everything you missed during the week.
Australia Update
Brad Sweet won the final round of the USA vs. WA Speedweek at Perth Motorplex. Callum Williamson, who held his own during every race, ended up winning the Speedweek title. Williamson finished the finale in second, and Brock Zearfoss brought the USA95 home in third.
Carson Macedo won the Simpson Speedway All Star Challenge in 360 competition. Macedo took home the $15,000 victory, holding off Rusty Hickman and Brock Hallett. Jordyn Charge and Lachlan McHugh completed the top five.
Macedo also won the Avalon International A-Main at Avalon Raceway. It was a race filled with mechanical failures by many top competitors such as Jock Goodyer, Brock Hallett, Aaron Reutzel, and James McFadden. Marcus Dumesny came home in second, followed by Cam Waters, Tate Frost and Jy Corbet.
Driver Announcements
The Beaver Racing team announced that Carson McCarl will be piloting the no. 12X machine around Knoxville and other races in 2024. The team did not release a schedule yet, but they hinted that it could be packed.
Some interesting changes are coming out of Central Pennsylvania. The once Shuttlesworth-Stehman Motorsports team has been re-branded to Stehman Motorsports. They announced that they hired Chris Shuttlesworth to be the crew chief for the no. 23 driven by Devon Borden.
Both Devon Borden and Chris Shuttlesworth will be traveling to Florida to compete at East Bay with High Limit. It won’t be with the no. 23 though, as it was announced they would be partnering with the Grove Motorsports no. 45. No other announcements have been made about that pairing, but it would not be surprising to see Borden pilot that car at the major events around the country this season if all goes well in Florida. I still expect him to be primarily racing in Central PA with the no. 23.
TEAM DGRD announced that Darin Naida will be the driver of their 360 machine. Naida will compete for the Knoxville Raceway track championship behind the wheel of the no. 6. The young driver started popping up at more races in his own no. 7N 410 sprint car in 2023, and will surely be a tough competitor in weekly 360 action.
The team also announced that Brandon Wimmer will be the driver of their no. 6 410 car. Wimmer, who performed well in the car at the 2023 Knoxville Nationals, will compete in various World of Outlaw and High Limit shows, as well as IRA, Knoxville and Maverick events.
