Independence day is upon us and the major sprint car touring series are enjoying a week off from competition. That doesn’t mean we will be deprived of good racing, as PA Speedweek is in full swing, Ohio has AFCS, OVSCA and FAST Series events on the schedule, NOSA/MSTS has four races on tap and Knoxville, Lernerville, Tri City, Butler and NARC will all be in action. With the World of Outlaws allowing their full-time drivers to race without penalty this week, we could see some guys racing that we were not expecting to see.
PA Speedweek

Weather permitting, PA Speedweek will continue through the week until the finale at Selinsgrove on Sunday. Danny Dietrich has continued his dominance in Pennsylvania, winning the first two events. Anthony Macri, who was expected to run away with the speedweek title, crashed out of the lead at Williams Grove on Friday, burying him deep in the mini-series standings. Dietrich has a commanding 101 point lead over Freddie Rahmer heading into tonight’s race at Lincoln.
Kyle Reinhardt, who has scaled back his operation a bit in 2024, has enjoyed a nice start to his speedweek. He picked up his first podium of the season on Sunday at BAPS. Justin Whittall was impressive on Friday night at Williams Grove, as he stayed with Dietrich and Macri as they battled for the lead. Rahmer, along with Chase Dietz and Troy Wagaman Jr have continued their consistency that we have seen all season long.
Monday night at Lincoln will look a little different. Skylar Gee joined the PA regulars at BAPS on Sunday and will continue his quest for win number two on the season. Emerson Axsom and Jacob Allen will also be in the field. I would expect Logan Schuchart and Brock Zearfoss to jump in on the action at some point during the week, but I am not sure it will be at Lincoln. I could see them joining Daryn Pittman at Williams Grove on 7/5 for $20,000 to win. Zearfoss and Schuchart are definitely candidates to be at Port Royal tomorrow.
*UPDATE – Logan Schuchart is at Lincoln tonight.
Matt Campbell, Troy Wagaman and Cameron Smith have enjoyed success at Lincoln in 2024. Look for them to battle up front with Macri, Dietrich, Rahmer, Axsom and Allen for the $10,000 prize. Devon Borden has been quiet recently, but don’t count out the “daredevil” at any of the remaining races on the schedule.
Ohio
In Ohio, the AFCS returns to action for two nights at Attica and Fremont. Cale Thomas, who has arguably been the best driver in Ohio in 2024, leads the championship standings over Zeth Sabo by 35 points. Cap Henry, Trey Jacobs and Tyler Street round out the top five.
If you have been watching the racing at Attica and Fremont this season, than you know that there are 10-15 guys who can win on any given night. Bryce Lucius picked up his 3rd win of the season and his 2nd at Attica last weekend. If Kalib Henry and the Running Boxer Farm no. 101 are in the field, they will always be a threat to win.
The FAST Series will be in action for the first time since the conclusion of Ohio Speedweek. Their show at Fremont was rained out over the weekend but they are scheduled for a two day show at Wayne County. When you think of Wayne County, you think of Ricky Peterson Jr, Jordan Ryan and Brandon Spithaler ripping the lip. Zane DeVault is the current series points leader, holding a 41 point lead over Spithaler.
Finally, the OVSCA has two races on their schedule this week. It all starts on 7/3 at Skyline, and concludes on 7/5 at Moler. Logan McCandless has won the last two OVSCA races. McCandless has easily been one of the most improved drivers in 2024 and intends to join the World of Outlaws in 2025. It’s hard to say who will be racing with the OVSCA this week, but I expect their car count to be higher than normal for the 7/3 show at Skyline.
If Danny Sams III is in the area, he will be a threat to win anywhere he shows up in Ohio. His impressive Ohio Speedweek has us wanting to see more of the young driver.
Local Shows
With both the World of Outlaws and High Limit off this week, Knoxville is always on the radar for teams looking to get laps. Cory Eliason and Gio Scelzi will be joining the strong field of Knoxville regulars. Brian Brown picked up his first win of the season last Saturday, and will look to carry that momentum all the way to Nationals. Knoxville is another place where 10+ drivers can win on any given night. Dusty Zomer has been extremely fast. Chase Randall has two wins. Austin McCarl is always in the hunt. I wouldn’t be surprised if Carson Macedo and Landon Crawley made an appearance at the sprint car capitol of the world.
Dale Blaney picked up his first win of 2024 at Lernerville last Friday. Blaney has been incredibly consistent in his limited starts this season. With the FAST Series racing on the same day, AJ Flick could have a clear path to pick up his 7th win of the season. Carl Bowser, who just won at Tri City on Sunday, will surely be in the mix. Flick currently holds at 26 point lead over Bowser in the season long championship.
Everybody’s favorite local 410 track, Butler Motor Speedway, will be racing on Saturday. At Butler, you just never know who is going to show up and who is going to be in victory lane. Conner Morrell won over the weekend at Butler. It was a much needed win for Morrell, who has kind of disappeared since dropping off the High Limit tour. Look for Keith Sheffer Jr and Van Gurley Jr to contend for their second win of the season.
On Sunday, Tri City Raceway Park in Pennsylvania will continue their 410 sprint car schedule. Since the new owners have taken over, Tri City has gone through quite the transformation. The track surface has been great the last two weeks, and 29 cars showed up to race last Sunday. It’s really cool to see something like this pay off for the owners who have clearly invested a lot of time and money into making the track better for fans and racers. Again, AJ Flick and Brandon Spithaler are definitely the ones to watch in Western PA.

NOSA/MSTS
It’s a big week for sprint car fans and teams in and around South Dakota. NOSA and MSTS have a combined four races on the schedule. NOSA will head to River Cities tomorrow, where Mark Dobmeier will look to pick up his 5th win of 2024. One name who has been impressive this season is Jade Hastings. Hastings has been consistently in the top five all season long and is a legitimate threat to Dobmeier. The MSTS will head to I-90 on 7/4, Rapid on 7/5 and conclude their week at Huset’s on 7/7. Tim Estenson, who has two wins to his credit this season, will be another name to watch.
Tim Kaeding and Kaleb Johnson are two names who I wouldn’t be surprised to see in victory lane this week. Whether that is at Huset’s on Sunday, or if they show at any other events, they will be in the hunt. Huset’s will return to action after the catastrophic flooding that postponed the High Bank Nationals. Ryan Timms and Kerry Madsen have been solid at Huset’s, as well as Austin McCarl.
POWRi 410
The POWRi 410 Outlaw series will be at Lake Ozark on 7/5-7/6. I expect a solid car count for the 7/5 show. Ayrton Gennetten will be taking advantage of a “home game” for him and his team. Noah Gass is another name that could make an appearence. Gass has made limited 410 starts this year, but has been solid when he does show. Aaron Reutzel and Hunter Schuerenberg both have POWRi wins this year. They could both be in the field on 7/5. Joe B Miller, Kyle Bellm, Xavier Doney and Roger Crockett will be a few other names to watch.
NARC 410
Finally, the NARC 410 series will be at Petaluma on 7/6. Cole Macedo and Justin Sanders have been the class of the NARC field in 2024. That is no surprise, as both Macedo and Sanders should be in consideration for a national ride in 2025. Sanders seems to always be up front no matter where they are racing. Macedo has arguably been the most improved driver from a year ago.
Dominic Gorden picked up his first career 410 win at Skagit during Dirt Cup. The young driver followed up the performance with a podium at Chico last Saturday. Shane Golobic has been oddly non-existent since picking up a win back on 5/18 at Tulare. Expect Golobic to get things going as the season picks up.
