RAWSON, OH (April 1, 2024): After falling behind early in the night at Attica Raceway Park on Friday, Ricky Peterson and team decided to make the 500 mile trip down to Farmington Empire Speedway in Missouri with one goal in mind…get better. With early season rainouts putting a damper on Peterson’s schedule, he was eager to get his 2024 Ohio sprint car season underway at Attica. Unfortunately, a slow start to the night found Peterson buried deep in his heat race. A strong field of 38 cars signed in for the season opener, and Peterson fell just short of making the feature.

“We felt like we gained some speed for the B-main, but ultimately came up short,” said Peterson.

The disappointing result was all the motivation Peterson needed to head to Farmington Empire Speedway for a weekly 410 sprint car show on Saturday. With just a daytime race at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway and the Attica season opener under his belt, Peterson knew that the only way that he was going to improve was to get more laps. He wanted to make sure that his program was getting up to speed early in the season.

Early in the night at Farmington, it looked like the decision to make the long trip was paying off. Peterson started the feature in 7th and quickly moved up to the 4th position. He was battling hard for third when the caution flag flew. Under yellow, Peterson’s left rear went down, forcing him to come to the work area to get it changed.

His crew got the tire changed and Peterson restarted the race in 19th. He worked his way through the field and was about to re-enter the top 5 before the car in front of him half-spun and collected him. The collision knocked the front end out and ultimately ended Peterson’s night and weekend. Still, Peterson was credited with a 10th place finish.

It was a night that went from really good to really bad in the blink of an eye.

“Farmington could’ve been great for us, but unfortunately, in racing you just don’t know what can happen.”

Although the weekend ended in disappointment, Peterson was able to achieve his goal. There is no doubt that Peterson and the team are in a better position than they were before the weekend started. For Peterson, the weekend was not a total bust.

“Anytime we can afford to swing it, I’m willing to race anywhere. Spending time with my father and my buddy Luke who helps on the car is always a huge bonus.”

As far as what’s next on the schedule for Peterson, the team will play the weather game and keep their options open. Be sure to follow Peterson Motorsports on Facebook for all updates regarding the team’s plans.
