As we begin the new year, the 410 sprint car announcements just won’t stop. The FAST Series in Ohio released their full schedule for 2024. Jamie Veal and Rico Abreu keep winning in Australia. Dylan Cisney is heading to the Plymouth Dirt Track. And sadly, the sprint car community has lost a legend. Let’s dive in.

Australia Winners

At Bunbury City Speedway, Rico Abreu captured his second win down under during round 3 of the USA v. WA Sprintcar Speedweek. Luke Oldfield crossed the line second, followed by Cory Eliason, Callum Williamson, and Jamie Maiolo. Round 4 will continue tonight at Perth Motorplex.

Jamie Veal picked up the win at Premier Speedway during round 5 of the Clay-Per-View Speedweek. Veal was followed by Jock Goodyer, James McFadden, Cameron Waters and Grant Anderson. Marcus Dumesny finished 7th, Justin Peck came home 9th, and Rusty Hickman rounded out the top 10. Racing will continue tonight at Premier Speedway.

Driver News

Jake Blackhurst and Nine Six Motorsports will be following the 2024 IRA Sprints schedule. Blackhurst, who ran just 24 410 races in 2024, will be upping his schedule to chase the series championship. He earned six top fives and 15 top 10 finishes last season.

Scott Bogucki announced that he will be returning to the Liebig Motorsports no. 10 car for 2024. Bogucki finished his 2023 season strong, including qualifying for the Knoxville Nationals. Bogucki only ran 19 410 races last season, but he did pick up a win in 360 competition. The team did not release a schedule yet, but I expect it to be centered around Knoxville and Huset’s.

Dylan Cisney will be venturing outside of Central Pennsylvania for a little bit in 2024. Cisney will race at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Wisconsin with the IRA Sprints for the Road America Challenge on June 8. Cisney, who will usually do some traveling to Knoxville for the Nationals, is consistently fast around Port Royal in weekly competition.

FAST Schedule

Ohio’s FAST Series, who has been in the spotlight due to the Ohio Sprint Speedweek controversy, has released their full schedule for 2024.

RIP Rick Ferkel

Sadly, the sprint car community lost one of the all-time greats to begin the year, with the passing of Rick Ferkel. Ferkel’s influence on the sport will never be forgotten, as he served as a role model, mentor, car owner and much more. I could go on and on about Ferkel’s career as sprint car driver, owner and mentor, but Tj Buffenbarger said it best. You can read his story about Ferkel here.
