Compared to recent weeks, the 410 sprint car world was relatively quiet the last few days. We got another High Limit driver announcement, and confirmation that Carson Macedo would be returning to the World of Outlaws. It was relatively quiet in Australia and New Zealand, but that will all change after Christmas. Plus, we got another schedule release for a regional series. Let’s go!

Thorson Goes High Limit Racing

In a surprise announcement, Tanner Thorson will be running the full High Limit schedule in 2024. It was a surprise, not because Thorson isn’t capable, but because it wasn’t public knowledge that he would have a national ride lined up. Thorson impressed in limited action behind the wheel of the LA Competition no. 58 machine in Central PA in 2023. He put together plenty of solid finishes against strong competition, including a great showing during PA Speedweek.

Thorson becomes yet another non-wing driver who will be making to move to full-time winged racing in 2024. Thomas “T-Mez” Meseraull and Emerson Axsom also announced their plans to run more winged races in 2024. Axsom, who parted ways with the Clauson Marshall Racing team after the conclusion of the 2023 season, is planning to run an aggressive winged 410 schedule in 2024. Meseraull, will chase the full Maverick Winged Sprint Series schedule, and will probably add a few more races on top of that.

Meseraull stated that one of the reasons he is making the jump is because of the lack of money that exists in midget racing and non-wing sprint car racing. While this has frequently been mentioned, the new money that is coming into 410 winged sprint car racing with High Limit might prompt other non-wing drivers to make the switch. We have seen Kevin Thomas Jr, Logan Seavey, Robert Balou, CJ Leary, and other non-wing standouts try their luck in a winged car recently. If something doesn’t change, we could see even more drivers do the same.

Whose Next?

Sprint car fans across the country are wondering the same thing. What is taking so long for Tyler Courtney and the Roth Motorsports team to announced their 2024 plans? While I don’t have the answer to that question, we are hearing a little bit more about what is happening behind the scenes. The rumor that was floating around and even mentioned on DIRTVision was that James McFadden might not be returning to the Roth car in 2024. Now, all signs are pointing toward McFadden returning full-time in 2024. Does that mean both cars will go World of Outlaws racing in 2024? More than likely, but a split shouldn’t be ruled out just yet.

I think that once the Roth team announces their plans, we will get a Tyler Courtney announcement shortly after. Regardless, it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Sunshine will be joining the High Limit roster in 2024. Courtney would bring the roster to 15, and add even more talent to a deep lineup of teams.
