Despite his disqualification from the CARS Tour race at Caraway Speedway on Wednesday night, Layne Riggs is our gasser of the week. Riggs passed Carson Kvapil just past the halfway point of the race and never looked back. Unfortunately, he was disqualified after his car was found to have an illegal sway bar installed. Even though this was not something that gave the car a competitive advantage, the CARS Tour made the tough decision to declare Jared Fryar the winner.
Riggs’ dominating performance is not the only reason we are naming him gasser of the week, as he also competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway last Friday behind the wheel of the Young’s Motorsports no. 02. The race didn’t go his way, as he was caught up in a wreck during the end of stage 2.
But that is not why we are highlighting Riggs’ eventful couple days of racing. During truck series qualifying, Riggs had an incredible moment where he got sideways coming out of the corner. It looked like he was surely going to wreck but he was able to gather the truck back in and continue on with his lap. The moment hurt his overall qualifying time but drew the attention of many people watching.

In NASCAR Cup Series qualifying, we saw Daniel Suarez, Corey Lajoie and Bubba Wallace all lose control of their car. They all couldn’t pull off the incredible save that Riggs’ was able to. It was right then and there that I thought to myself that Riggs was deserving of more opportunities to race. He proved that again on Wednesday night and I will be patiently waiting for his next race.
